Once Again, Back to Fern Canyon

May 9 @ 8:30 am - 11:00 am

FoGP is heading back to Fern Canyon to continue our work in this lovely, semi-shady Griffith Park spot.

Over the years we’ve conducted multiple volunteer events in this location, beginning in 2014 when Marshall High students placed natives in the area that had been devastated by the 2007 fire.

And our challenge – help natives proliferate as they continue to make inroads, and help maintain the area for the multiple hikers that use these trails.

As usual, we’re meeting at the Merry-go-round Parking Lot entrance (LOOK FOR OUR SIGNAGE). We’ll be hiking up to the catch basins at the bottom of Fern Canyon and remove invasive plants that tend to overwhelm disturbed areas. We’ll also go further up the trail cleaning the area as we go. We strongly recommend wearing closed-toe shoes or hiking boots, long pants, sunscreen, and please don’t forget the hat. We supply the hand tools, plastic bags, work gloves, and water, but if you have your own pair of gloves, we encourage you to bring them. Same with water containers – bring if you have them.
If you have not completed one of our Volunteer Agreement forms, you will need to complete one before you volunteer in the Park. Complete the form, scan it, and email back to rossarnold1213@gmail.com. If you’ve already completed / submitted a form in the past, just sign-in when you arrive at the meeting spot.
And, if you’re interested in organizing a project in the Park for your organization, club, company, or group, please reach out at Volunteer page on our website – someone will contact you. If you’re available during the week and would like to pitch in, we have a small group going out on Wednesdays to remove invasive plants in the Park. This group works from 8:00 to 10:00 AM.
We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, May 9th
