Friends of Griffith Park is heading back to the Bird Sanctuary AGAIN as we continue to clear debris from streambeds and tackle more invasives. A quick explanation of why we try to get ahead of the invasives: they tend to crowd out natives. We’ve seen first-hand what happens when invasives are removed – natives thrive!
There’s a example of this, btw… pockets of caterpillar phacelia are evident along slopes – an indicator that our efforts have been helpful returning natives to this area that was devastated by the 2007 fire. We hope everyone who showed up on Earth Day will continue to support our efforts. Don’t forget to bring a friend!
Please dress comfortably… old clothes, comfy shoes, plus a hat and sunscreen. If you have gloves, bring them, although we do have gloves on hand.
We’ll provide tools and water (if you bring a bottle, you can always refill).
Get ready, get set, join the fun and continue to celebrate Griffith Park!
