As a biology instructor at CSULA, Chris DeMarco teaches courses for biology and non-biology majors. He earned his MSc in biology on a research project investigating the effects of urbanization on a population of western gray squirrels in Griffith Park – a population that’s continued to significantly dwindle over the years. DeMarco’s study was funded by Friends of Griffith Park and Cooper Ecological Monitoring, Inc.

This evening, Chris will discuss the results of his study, focusing on the genetic, ecological factors associated with a possible local extinction of the Griffith Park western gray squirrels and potential solutions to mitigate these factors.
